Peace River Fossil Hunting

Fun fact, Alex and I love to fossil hunt!

Each year, we take a trip to bone valley in central Florida to dig for shark teeth and fossils in the fresh water rivers and creeks.

We joined a professional guide, Fred Mazza of Paleo Discoveries Florida on canoe fossil hunting trips exploring Florida’s ancient past hidden in the beds of the rivers and off shooting creeks.

This area of Florida used to be open water and the nursing grounds for Meglodon Sharks, Mako Sharks, Bull sharks and Lemon Sharks! Throughout most of its history, Florida has been under water as glaciers of ice in the north expanded and melted, the Florida peninsula emerged and submerged over time.

There since, each year the Florida rains wash down new material into the river. You never know what you may find!

Above is a photo of me in celebration of finding a hoard of shark's teeth this day.
